With the
continuing progress in satellite technology and
the reducing costs of ground equipment, satellites
are now more economical for use in geographically
remote or economically under-developed areas, allowing
people in such regions to enjoy the same basic voice
and data service as those available in urban areas.
Small earth stations with high quality voice, fax
and data capabilities can be installed quickly and
economically, servicing individual homes or small
villages in rural areas.
A number of Asian countries use AsiaSat to supplement
their domestic telephone network particularly in
areas where terrestrial telephone lines are limited
due to rough terrain. Telephone services providers
in Asia also use AsiaSat to establish point-to-point
telephone trunk routes to meet the demand for long-distance
communications in rural and remote areas. |
